Positive reinforcement dog training consists of rewarding your dog for desired behaviors. Rewards can consist of food, toys, play, or praise and should be given immediately following the behavior. Positive reinforcement makes the behavior being rewarded more likely to occur in the future and is one of the most powerful tools for training your pet. It is also fundamental for developing a successful relationship with your pet.
We also take a positive approach to addressing undesired behaviors: jumping, barking, begging for food, digging, etc. We develop a treatment plan that consists of several components. The first is the positive reinforcement of an alternate, desired behavior. This teaches the dog that performing the desired behavior is more rewarding than engaging in the undesired behavior. Next, we determine methods for managing the dog's environment and eliminating the opportunity to perform the undesired behavior. Consistency is critical. Therefore, we customize the plan to fit your lifestyle, ensuring both you and your dog's success.
We can also help with more complex behavior challenges: fear, aggression, and separation anxiety. We use counter-conditioning and desensitization techniques when treating these issues.
